2025 Style Resolutions

1. Plan your outfits ahead. The WORST time to try to put an outfit together is right before you need to leave the house. Here’s how I do it: I spend about 30 minutes on Sunday to style about 6 or 7 outfits. I look at the weather for the week, I think about what I have to do, and I try to make outfits using pieces that I haven’t worn for awhile. I look at Pinterest for inspiration, and make it enjoyable by turning on a podcast or some music and having a glass of wine. And I keep the outfits on a small pop up garment rack so they’re ready to go. Try it for a month, and tell me it doesn’t make a difference!

2. No Single Use Outfits. Single Use Outfit is a term I have for an outfit or piece you buy and wear only one time. Avoid this by spending a little time styling new pieces into your wardrobe right when you get them renting or borrowing pieces from a friend if you have a special occasion, and any time you do get something new, spend time styling it with other pieces in your closet to get a sense of of it’s range.

3. Don’t buy anything unless it can pass The Tomorrow Test. Before you buy anything ask yourself “Would I wear this tomorrow?” If the answer is no, go a little deeper and think about why. If the answer is YES and you do want to buy it, you should wear it tomorrow. Get it into your rotation, don’t save it.

4. Focus on what you Do have, not what you Don’t. I love looking to Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, but it can be counter-productive to only look at things I don’t own/would need to buy. So I to look for outfits that are fresh takes on things that I own (I might search Pinterest for “Pink blazer outfit”), and I try to make my own version.

5. Take better care of your clothes. Too many people tell me “I don’t take good care of my clothes” Maybe it’s a time issue or they don’t care to separate their laundry or look at the care instructions. Well, that’s a choice, and you can do better! Don’t buy things you aren’t willing to take care of. Keeping things in nice condition and extending their life in your wardrobe is better for the planet and your style.
